Why Plexus Caused Me to Create a Chocolate Cherry Shake Recipe

I recently decided to try another Plexus product, and I honestly DID NOT LIKE IT until I DID. I decided to get their Plexus Lean™ Whey Chocolate because having a quick protein meal replacement is really helpful and beneficial when you are a busy homeschool mom with a wannabe homestead. It's hard to find the time to make a healthy meal, I mean, I dared to shower today and my house went into full chaos in less than 5 minutes, and that's with my hubby here to help. Back on track. I went for the chocolate flavor because I love chocolate and I figured this could be a good way for me to get my chocolate fix without hiding sugary candy bars in my closet. (Yes, I know, there are a lot of healthy versions of chocolate out there, but I don't like most of them or they are so darn expensive I need a full time job just to pay for my chocolate addiction. It's a problem, I know, but I am working on it.)

Recipe and then I will get back to the rest of my thoughts...Stick with me:

  • 5-7 Ice Cubes

  • 7-8 Frozen Dark Sweet Cherries

  • 1-2 Tablespoons of Plain or Vanilla Yogurt (I use Vanilla Whole Milk, you do you boo)

  • 1 Cup of Chocolate Almond Milk, I prefer Unsweetened, but sometimes I can't find it in stores

  • 2 Scoops of Plexus Lean Whey Milk Chocolate

  • Blend in Blender (I use this model of Vitamix, this and other links are often affiliated, thank you for your loving support)

  • Serve in a glass and enjoy!

So, my first experience was just darn gross. It was chalky, the stevia taste would not leave my mouth for two days, it wasn't chocolatey enough, and it didn't blend well in my shaker cup like other protein shakes I have used in the past. Now, to be fair to Plexus, I don't like protein shakes, I NEVER have. Growing up, my grandparents owned a health food store, I have worked in several health food stores, I have tried probably over 20 different types, brands, or flavors throughout the years. There was once a brand of with a rice protein that I liked okay, and then later I found another brand with a chocolate whey protein that I tolerated if I made with unsweetened chocolate almond milk. Clearly, I am not keen on protein shakes and I loathe smoothies, so I don't blame Plexus for not meeting my palate. (Well, I think that they could increase the chocolate and decrease the stevia, but that's just me.)

That first day I had already decided that I was going to give it a few more chances because I had few ideas of how to make it more palatable because I spent money and didn't want to waste it. Well, I did not expect the health benefits I got that day. I noticed that I wasn't have muscle cramps in my legs and feet, which has been a chronic issue for me for the last 4 years even with trying all the natural supplements, Epsom salt baths, magnesium lotions, mineral rich foods, digestive aids, stretches, and chiropractic care. To test this, I did some Pilates exercises that always trigger those cramps in my feet and legs. NONE. No cramps at all. I also noticed that the inflammation in the left side of my body was way less than normal. I was stunned, could I really be getting this kind of results from a simple protein shake?

I told my hubby what I was noticing and he was curious too, so we decided that I needed to keep drinking it to see if it really was the shake that was helping me, BUT I had to find away to not hate it, it needed to taste good!

I worked at a cafe in a health food store years ago, and one of things we predominately made were smoothies and protein shakes, I decided to take my experience and apply it to what I knew I liked, made a shopping list and gave it a try. I LOVE IT! It is so good, my picky toddler loves it to, and he won't hardly eat anything.

After 3 weeks I noticed that I had less chocolate cravings, my waist trimmed up a little bit more (I have four kids, that's awesome), I felt stronger, I felt better in so many ways, I stopped having muscle cramps, and it tastes so good! I have run out and I need to order more, I am not feeling as great, had a few muscle cramps, and my chocolate cravings are back in full force. This is the only thing that I changed.

So in closing, I think that this is an amazing product by Plexus and it is totally worth the price and I will be getting more soon.
